Can anyone tell me the actual year of manufacture of my Selmer 10G clarinet?
I bought this clarinet in 2001 (brand new), and the serial number is M7366.
M series Selmers were made in the mid-1940s, so did they just begin the
alphabet sequence again after reching Z ?

Many thanks

My numbers just go up to late seventies. I've had a look around and Selmer
don't seem keen on revealing clarinet serial numbers. You can get the sax
numbers OK but not clari ones for some reason.

If they are going through the prefix letters again with a similar number of
instruments per letter you could have at a guess but it'd be a rough guess.
Sometimes M is used to indicate woodwind.

You can call Conn-Selmer customer service and give them your serial number;
they will tell you the year it was made. They are surprisingly helpful!

They stopped making them in 1991 aprox (give or take 3 years). M was among
the very last ones to be produced. They went from about X to Z and then
started again at A, B, C, etc to M.

(I studied with Gigliotti, the designer)

Thank you for this information. I bought mine in 2000. Maybe this is why
Selmer do not publish the year of manufacture of these later models as they
were still available to buy 'brand new' 10 years later. (Not that it
matters, because it's a great clarinet).
Best regards

I was just on the Selmer site and found it quite changed. They used to
have tables for the Series 9 and Series 10 showing serial numbers and
year of manufacture. That was where I found my Rxxxxx Series 9 was
manufactured in 1956 (If I remember correctly).

I tried to look around the site, but could not find those charts. I
wonder if they are possibly available on the Clarinet Web Site (Not
sure of the web site name).
